If all you want is the cheapest new 3-row crossover you can buy (which is in fact all some people want), then the Journey will do just fine.

Otherwise...

And it should've been gone. Long ago. And far away.

I have one. It’s horrible. 2014, American Value Package, 87,000 miles, transmission is already going.

We got it for free...but it’s horrible.

We had it in Europe for a little while and the press destroyed it.

Not a terrible car, I can see its appeal, but as far as the other options go it's not for me.

I just found a Dutch review, from 2008. The review starts with: “Functionality trumps beauty.” It set the tone of the article. They call certain designs and materials “almost retro”. The steering wheel seems to come from a truck (of the tractor trailer variety). Shifting (with a manual) feels like stirring a bowl of tennis balls. The 2.4L is too slow and thirsty. The transmission lacks a gear.

This was 2008, yet 8 years later it’s still available in the US?

Being surrounded by Top Gear makes it harder to find reviews like that. xD

I’ll journey on down to the dealership to buy one, then forget what it looks like by the time I get there

The only reason why they still sell is because people buying replacements for the ones they parked and could never recognize as their own.

Weirdly enough I feel like they look better now than when they came out. maybe just the updated interior and better wheels. Also they’re not alone with the 4 speed auto. You can get that in a Yaris as well, and it’s the worst.

And it still sells very, very well. Fleet sales, the “BUY AMERICAN!!!111" folks, and the people who just want something new but also cheap. They all flock to this thing.

Very long ago, considering it really shouldn’t have been cleared for production in the first place.

I know, right? I figured they would have sold off the tooling to some backwater Russian or Chinese automaker long ago.

When we were shopping for SUVs a couple years ago, one of my wife’s friends recommended the Journey. When I asked why, she could only say, “It’s got a real smoothe ride.”

Yeah, no.

But it has built-in booster seats for the kiddles...

A feature they still don’t feel like sticking in their minivans...

It’s really one of the few plus sides. I kind of wish more automakers offered that as a feature.

agreed. Not that boosters aren’t cheap and mobile, but it’s nice to not have to rip them out and store them every time you try to adult with friends.
